Hold onto your golf clubs, folks, because the R&A just dropped a hole-in-one announcement: the 154th Open is heading to Royal Birkdale in 2026! Get ready for some swingin’ action on the green, where the pros will battle it out for glory and the coveted Claret Jug.

Ah, the legendary course has played host to the event a whopping 10 times, with the most recent spectacle in 2017. It was a nail-biting final round that had us all on the edge of our seats, and Jordan Spieth emerged victorious, snatching the Claret Jug with gusto for the very first time.

But why is The Open celebrated at Royal Birkdale?

Having hosted the event for 10 times it is one of the courses that has held the event for most times. “Royal Birkdale is a world-class championship venue and its outstanding links will once again provide the world’s best men’s professional golfers with a tough but fair test of their talents and capabilities as they compete for the Claret Jug,” said, Martin Slumbers, CEO of The R&A.

The 2023 edition of The Open Championship will be held at Royal Liverpool in Hoylake, marking the venue’s return as host since its last occurrence in 2014. Subsequently, the 2024 contest will take place at Royal Troon, situated on the Scottish coast.
