McIlroy has made it clear that this season he’s going to focus on the big events and will be returning soon to continue his successful 2025 season.
Why isn’t Rory McIlroy playing in the 2025 Wyndham Championship?
Rory McIlroy is chasing World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler as the two will face off over the next three weeks at the FedExCup playoffs.
McIlroy’s dominant PGA Tour form
The Northern Irishman has three wins this season so far, but the biggest of course was the Masters, where he won in a playoff against Justin Rose and sealed the deal on his career Grand Slam.
McIlory has banked over $16 million this season with wins at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the Masters and the Players Championship. After a bit of a drop in his performance after the Masters with a MC at the RBC Canadian Open and a T19 a the U.S. Open, McIlroy has performed well recently with a T6 at the Travelers Championship, T2 at the Scottish Open and T7 at the Open Champiship.

Rory McIlroy absent from Wyndham Championship
McIlroy isn’t, however, part of the field for this week’s Wyndham Championship, taking place at Sedgefield Country Club in North Carolina. After playing in the British Isles, the Career grand slam winner is among a host of top players, Scheffeler included, who have opted to take a break ahead of the FedEx Cup playoffs, which gets underway with the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis on August 7-10.
The Masters champion also skipped last week’s 3M Open in Minnesota too. McIlroy has been having some fun off the course and resting up for the last stretch of the season.

When will Rory McIlroy play next?
August 7-10: FedEx St Jude Championship (TPC Southwind)
August 14-17: BMW Championship (Caves Valley)
August 21-24: Tour Championship (East Lake)
McIlroy will be looking to win the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup to cap off his impressive year.
