Why is the Oilers’ Connor McDavid called McJesus?
Who will you count on to get you a win in the conference finals Game 1? Of course, you will rely on your captain, the best player, the three-time MVP winner
When it comes to clinching a victory in Game 1 of the conference finals, especially during the second overtime on the opposing team’s ice, there is no doubt that you will place your trust in your captain. After all, they are not only the best player on the team but also a three-time winner of the MVP trophy and the most prolific assistant of the past regular season!
Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers scored a goal to secure a 3-2 victory over the Dallas Stars last night. The team from Alberta achieved the win they were aiming for in Texas on their first try, which allowed McDavid to make up for being sidelined during the first overtime.
“It feels very good to score a goal in overtime. It was an important goal after a great action in which Evan Bouchard participated”, said McDavid after his team’s great victory.
In the previous part of the game, Edmonton blew a 2-0 lead. At the beginning of the second period, Leon Draisaitl extended his playoff streak to 13 games. Zack Kassian then made it 2-0, but Dallas came back. Both goals for the Stars were scored by Tyler Seguin to win in overtime.
However, McDavid secured the win with his third playoff goal. He also gathered an incredible 20 assists. The second game of the series will also be played at the American Airlines Center and is scheduled for Saturday evening.
In the East finals, the Florida Panthers and New York Rangers met, with the team from Miami celebrating a 3-0 victory on Manhattan Island in the first game of their series.
But why do they call him McJesus?
“The Edmonton Oilers put their faith in their lord and second coming, Connor McJesus.” We first heard the nickname in June 2016, when the Oilers drafted Connor McDavid in the first round. McDavid has been watched since he was 13, as he was being groomed to become the next greatest player since Wayne Gretzky.
Fans use the nickname “McJesus” to show their high expectations for Connor McDavid, suggesting that he will lead the Oilers to success. Some people find this nickname disrespectful and think it puts too much pressure on McDavid. However, he has proven in the past that he can handle pressure and deliver “divine” performances, as he did last night.
