Without a doubt, 2022 is already a historic year for Sergio Pérez. So far this season, ‘Checo’ got his first pole position, won in Monaco, achieved more podiums in a year than ever before and has now became the first Mexican to be champion in Formula 1 in the Constructors’ World Championship. Pérez fully justified the main reason why Red Bull signed him in December 2020: to end the hegemony of Mercedes in the team championship. Although it is not the most prestigious in the category, the CWC is the most important to brands for economic reasons.

‘Checo’ Pérez wrote his name into history by being a key player in obtaining Red Bull’s fifth constructors’ crown. The Austrian team sealed the championship with Verstappen’s victory and Pérez’s fourth place in the United States Grand Prix to reach 656 points, a number never before reached by the team, and which of course will be added to in the three remaining races of the year, including the Mexican GP.

‘Checo’ Pérez role in the Red Bull title

Sergio gained confidence in his second season with the Austrian team and the results began to come quickly. In just the second GP of the season, in Saudi Arabia, he got his first pole position. One race later, at the Australian Grand Prix, he was on the podium for the first time. Then came his great victory at the Monaco Grand Prix with which he achieved his renewal with Red Bull until 2024.

In the middle of the season he suffered from the changes to the RB18, but ‘Checo’ managed to overcome the situation to win the Singapore Grand Prix, in one of his best performances in Formula 1 to date. Now he enjoys the fruits of his labour with the Red Bull constructors’ title, an achievement that the team had pending since 2013. Of the 656 points that the energy drinks team has achieved, the Mexican driver has contributed with 265: nine podiums, two victories and he continues to fight for second place in the Drivers’ Championship.
