The Mexican was left off the Formula 1 grid in 2025, but will remain linked to Red Bull.

Sergio Pérez was left without a seat in Formula 1 after announcing his departure from Red Bull following a year of poor results.

It means that ‘Checo’ will be taking time out to press pause on a 14-year career in F1 and at least by 2025 it is expected that he will assume a role within the family of the Austrian team.

Checo Pérez’s duties with Red Bull in 2025

Checo, who was under contract until 2026, was released from Red Bull Racing last week. Negotiating his departure was not easy and therefore, it is understood that Pérez was not completely detached from the Austrian brand, which has already confirmed Liam Lawson as his replacement. Cristian Horner, director of RB, assured that Sergio will take part in two show runs this coming year.

(Checo) will still be involved with the team. He will do a couple of show runs with us over the next year. But it was the right thing for him because he wasn’t enjoying all this pressure, scrutiny and expectations every weekend either,” Horner said in an interview with Talksport.

In that same vein, Horner summed up a bit

how Pérez’s departure came about, insisting that after a discussion an agreement was reached and the relationship between the two remains good. “He’s just had a really difficult year, and last week we sat down, although we had already talked about it a bit before, and we decided that it was the right thing for both of us to take a step back, for him to get out of the car, take some time with his family and reflect on what he wants to do.

“I had signed a new contract, but of course in those contracts (there are clauses). I’m not going to go into the details of the contract, but inevitably there are stipulations and obligations between the team and the riders. We sat down and talked about it. It’s about relationships, and we’ve always had a great relationship with Sergio,” he said.

Finally, the manager acknowledge the Mexican driver’s contribution during his time at with Red Bull. “Sergio has been with us for four years and, in the first three, he played a fundamental role in the team, especially in that first world championship of drivers” he concluded.
