The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course was the site of a nasty crash last weekend, when Kyle Larson slammed into Ty Dillon’s car in Turn 1. Larson claimed full responsibility for the incident, and said he felt horrible about it.

Kyle Larson: It was embarrassing

Just made a big mistake. I got in there deep, and I got out of shape,” he said.

“I was hoping that by the time I got it under control, I could go straight before they turned into a corner. And once I realized that I was going to hit the (No.) 47, I tried to just do what I could to turn right and miss both of them. And that obviously didn’t happen.”

The 30-year-old expressed embarrassment at what happened, and was grateful that both drivers came out mostly unscathed.

“”Feel really bad about wiping Ty out and just very thankful that him and I were both safe and didn’t get seriously injured… it was scary for both of us,” said Larson, who ran to the other driver after the crash to make sure he was fine.

Ty Dillon: Sore after the crash

Dillon said he did not anticipate the impact so he was unable to prepare his body for it.

“I had no getting ready for it. I think my body just took a lot of the dissipation of the impact. I think that’s why my ribs and everything were just sore,” the No.42 driver said.

He said that the crash was a result of a mistake that he didn’t expect Larson to make, but acknowledged that it was only human. “Hey, we’re all going to make mistakes,” he said of the incident.
