Spanish rider Raúl Torras Martínez, 46 years old, died on Tuesday following an accident during the first Supertwin trial of the 2023 Isle of Man TT. The official race organizers made the “tremendously sad” announcement of his passing, saying, “The accident occurred in Alpine, between mile markers 16 and 17, during the third and final lap of the race.”

“Raúl was an experienced TT rider who made his debut here in 2017 and had his highest finish last year at 15th in the Supertwin Race. He recorded his fastest ever lap on the Mountain Circuit today during the Superstock Race, with a lap time averaging 125.470 miles per hour.

Organizers continued, “Raul was the fastest Spaniard ever to have lapped the TT course.

The Isle of Man TT has been run since 1907 and is generally known as the most dangerous events in all of sports. Last year, six competitors died and Raúl Torras Martínez is the 267th fatality in the 115 years of the event’s history.

The native of Vic, in northeastern Spain, worked as a traffic agent for the Mossos d’Esquadra, the regional police force for Catalunya. He was passionate for motorcycles and has been a fixture in the Catalan race circuits since 2005.

Diario AS would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Raúl Torras Martínez.
