After long avoiding social media, Sebastian Vettel finally created an Instagram account, which he used to announce his retirement from Formula 1 racing.
Sebastian Vettel finally pleased his social-media loving fans by creating an Instagram account, which he then used to announce that he was retiring from Formula 1 racing at the end of the current season.
The 35-year-old will be leaving behind a legacy of being one of the best and most successful drivers in the history of the sport. He will be retiring as a driver for Aston Martin, but he previously drove for Ferrari, Red Bull, Toro Rosso, and BMW Sauber.
Vettel: Running with Red Bull
He achieved the most success during his stint with Red Bull, with whom he stayed from 2009 to 2014. Vettel won his first World Drivers’ Championship title in 2010, when he became Formula 1′s youngest world champion at 23 years and 134 days, a record that has been unbeaten up to today. He proceeded to win a total of four consecutive world titles, all of them with Red Bull.
This number is the third highest in history, surpassed only by Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher who both have seven championships, and Juan Manuel Fangio, who has five.
Vettel: Foiled by Hamilton
Vettel moved to Ferrari after his successful run and stayed with them for six years, but he was frustrated in his attempt to add to his collection of world titles, finishing second to Hamilton in 2017 and 2018.
Vettel has 53 race wins under his belt, and has stood on the podium 122 times during the course of his career which lasted 15 years. Only Hamilton and Schumacher have logged more race wins than the German.
