Update:

Scott McLaughlin crashed out of the Indy 500 during the warm up this afternoon.

The New Zealand driver was moving from side to side to warm up his tyres when he suddenly lost control of his car, and smashed into the track side wall, destroying the front left side of his Team Penke car.

McLaughlin, who appeared to be uninjured, managed to drive the car off the track, before exiting the vehicle. He then held his head in his hands in despair as he squatted beside his destroyed vehicle.

The race had been delayed for over an hour by rain, with some speculating that some water left on the track could have contributed to the accident.

McLaughlin: “I have no idea what happened”

“I have no idea what happened. I’m just so upset for my team. I can’t believe we’re out of the race. I put so much into this race,” said a clearly distraught McLaughlin.

Andretti also out of the Indy 500

Marco Andretti also crashed out of the race, just after it got underway, after he was hit by Jack Harvey on the first turn.
