Carlos Sainz made his debut in Formula 1 in 2015 with Toro Roso, teaming up with a very young Max Verstappen. In the first race at the Australian GP he managed to get points with a ninth-position finish. He stayed for almost three seasons at the Faenza team, until he moved to Renault in 2017. He ended his first race with them in seventh place.

Sainz remained with the French team until 2019, when he moved to McLaren to form a duo with Lando Norris. His debut with the organization ended in an abandonment in Melbourne with engine problems, but he garnered his first podiums with them- third in Brazil 2019 and second in Italy 2020.

After two seasons, he signed with Ferrari, with whom he achieved his best results. In his first year in Maranello he achieved four podiums, and in his second season in 2022, he scored his first pole positions in Great Britain, Spa and the United States.
