Miami returned to the F1 calendar in 2022 after a 59-year absence. The Miami International Autodrome is situated within the Hard Rock Stadium complex in Miami Gardens, Florida. It features a temporary track, using the existing asphalt roads which are integrated into the Hard Rock Stadium’s parking zones.
UK-Based company Apex Circuit Design was hired to lead the project to design a temporary track in Miami in 2015. The Hard Rock Stadium grounds covers a total of 93 hectares of land which hosts various sporting events including American football (it is home to the Miami Dolphins and hosted Super Bowl LIV) and the annual Miami Open tennis tournament.
Miami circuit length, stats and records
The FIA Grade 1 race circuit includes 19 corners and three straights. It has a varying track width of 10 meters to 15.24 meters, an average lap speed of 128 mph and a top speed of 200 mph. The circuit is 5.412km long with the full race distance set at 308.326 km.
The track design accommodates high-speed side-by-side racing with multiple passing opportunities. Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen set the lap record of 1:29.708 at the 2023 Miami Grand Prix.
The Miami International Autodrome circuit can accommodate a capacity crowd of 65,000 and an all-time television audience of 2.6 million US viewers tuned in for the inaugural Miami Grand Prix in 2022.
Miami hosts Round 6 of the 2024 F1 calendar, with practice 1 scheduled between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. on Friday 3 May, followed by sprint qualifying at 4:30 p.m. The race, which takes place over 57 laps, will start at 4 p.m. on Sunday 5 May and will be aired live by DAZN.
