In 2025, Carlos Sainz will not drive for Ferrari, as the team has opted to bring the experienced Lewis Hamilton on board. This move leaves only a handful of Formula One driver positions up for grabs, with speculation swirling around potential openings at Red Bull and Mercedes.

However, at present, Mercedes has no plans to hire Carlos Sainz. It might be logical for the Spaniard to join Mercedes after his time at Ferrari because he is a top-tier driver and would be a good fit for the team. According to Sky, Mercedes is not looking to recruit Sainz, not because they doubt his skills, but because they want to take their time with the decision.

In Monte Carlo, Craig Slater, a journalist from Sky, uncovered information suggesting that Mercedes is actively considering recruiting Max Verstappen to join its team. If this plan does not come to fruition, Mercedes may opt to bring in the young Italian driver Kimi Antonelli, who will turn 18 in August. Previously, they confirmed their trust in George Russell, so those two are coming like the definite Plan B for the German team led by Toto Wolff.

Red Bull is not a realistic option, so Sky learns that Sainz is close to signing with Audi, which will enter Formula 1 in 2026. Carlos could then receive a substantial career-topping amount of money from the new team.
