WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM TD GARDEN!!!

Knicks can catch fire

The Knicks have proven to be one of the most explosive teams in the league, and they showed that again last game when they dropped 41 on the Raptors in the first quarter. They lead the NBA in 40 point quarters with 9 in the first 19 games of the season. That’s one almost every two games, which puts them well ahead of the next best teams which have 6 40 point quarters. It should come as no surprise that the Knicks are a top-5 scoring team averaging 120.4 a game but Boston is the second best defensive team behind the Thunder allowing just 110.9 ppg.

Tatum update

Jayson Tatum suffered a devastating injury in the playoffs last season and Boston was hit with the reality that he wouldn’t just be out for the rest of the playoffs, but for most of the regular season in 25/26. The Celtics haven’t ruled him out for the entire year, and according to his teammate Sam Hauser he is on track to getting back on the court as soon as possible. “He’s (Tatum) staying mentally, physically, emotionally prepared,” Hauser told the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach on Friday. “He’s working his tail off every day, as you can see. And his presence is still felt even though he’s not out there with us.”

Eastern Conference Standings

Mind you, we are just about a quarter of a way through the season, but it’s never too early to look at the standings. Taking a look at the East coming into tonight, the Pistons are the top team in the conference, but the Knicks are right behind them in 2nd place over the Heat and Raptors who are chasing them in 3rd and 4th. We haven’t seen the Celtics this far down the ladder is a long time, but they are just a few games behind the third place Heat and this game tonight could go a long way in building some momentum heading into the new year.

Burnson on another level

We all know how good Jalen Brunson is but the coach of the Toronto Raptors, Darko Rajakovic was quick to lavish praise upon the Knicks star. E didn’t shy away from putting Brunson in the NBA Elite category. “We had a discussion about that this morning in the coach’s meeting — he is the type of player that I can put in the category of Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic,” Rajakovic said. “Different position, obviously, but guys who are just playing at their own pace. You cannot speed them up. Their awareness is amazing. At any point of time they know where the hand of the defensive player is.

Star watch: Celtics

It’s crazy to see that Jaylen Brown has only had 4 triple doubles in his career, but when you are sharing the ball with Jayson Tatum on a nightly basis it’s understandable that the stats will also be shared. This year that’s not the case or at least not now. Tatum is still sidelined with his lengthy injury so that means it’s up to Brown to carry the team. He is taking on more the a scoring burden and averaging a career high 28.4 point a game, but he’s also got a career high in assists per game and flirting with a career high in rebounds per game. Brown is having an outstanding season, but he will need his teammates to step up like Pirtchard did last game until Tatum comes back.

Star watch: Knicks

Get ready for a big night from Jalen Brunson. He is alway willing to step to the spotlight in a big game on the national stage, and tonight he will be itching to make up for a slow night on the offensive end against the Toronto Raptors. He’s having another All-Star type season, averaging 28.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 6.2 assists a game. Tonight in Boston you know the Knicks will be working their offense around him looking for a fifth straight win on the shoulders of the Eastern Conference Player of the week.

Celtics last game

The Celtics went into the house of the one seed in the East last year and came out of Cleveland with a narrow victory over the Cavaliers. Boston got a season high performance from their sharp shooter Payton Pritchard who dropped 42 points on 15/22 shooting and Jaylen Brown posted his fourth career triple double but the game came down to the wire. Boston went into the 4th quarter up 11 but Clevland gave them all they could handle in the final moments of the game, but it was Jaylen Brown at the FT line hitting the first FT to make it 117-115 and missing the the second with 0.7 and the C’s close out the Cavs.

Knicks last game

The Knicks met the Raptors in a battle of top teams in the Eastern Conference and it was New York rattling off their 4th straight win thanks to a big first quarter in which they scored 41 points and took a 19 point lead into the second quarter. The Raptors would try and chip into the lead as the game went on but all five starters for the Knicks had 14+ points on a night that Jalen Brunson shot just 6/19 from the field. KAT led the way with 22 and 8 rebounds and the Knicks cruised to victory in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.
