Commanders 18 vs 26 Eagles summary, stats, scores and highlights | NFL Week 11

Barkley called game with this 39 yard burst up the middle to close the door on the Commanders and stretch the Eagles win streak out of six games. These two teams will play again, but Philly took a big step towards winning the NFC East on Thursday night from the Link. 

Barkley was undoubtedly the MVP of the night going for 146 yards and 2 TDs on 146 carries and had another 52 yards receiving. He is starting to look like the Derrick Henry of this Eagles team. The long the game goes on, the better he gets and the more problems he creates for opposing defenses. 

It wasn't perfect from the Eagles, especially in the first half, but Philly held on and stayed in the game thanks to another incredible performance from their defense who made Jayden Daniels look like a rookie for the first time this season. He went 22/32 for 191 yards, 1 TD and this INT but he never found his rhythm. Reed Blankenship came up with the INT and a few plays later Philly would take it in for six.  

With momentum on their side following the 4th down stop it was time for Saquon Barkley to take over. He had just 70 yards heading into he final quarter, but he caught fire in the 4th. This 24 yard TD sprint was the beginning of the end for Washington. 

With a chance to take the lead on a 44 yard field goal, Dan Quinn and the Washington Commanders decided to go for it on 4th and 2 from the PHI 26. Daniels bobbled the snap and he was forced to scramble for the marker, but got pushed out shy of the line to gain. 

It took the Eagles three more than quarters to get into the endzone but once they did it seemed like the flood gates opened. Jalen Hurts ran in a Tush Push to give Philly the lead three minutes into the final quarter and Saquon Barkley would take over from there. 

The Philadelphia Eagles took control of the NFC East with a division win over the Washington Commanders on a short week. Neither team played great, but Philly held on and let Saquon Barkley lead them to victory courtesy of a couple fourth quarter TD runs. 

The Commanders pulled ahead first as the Eagles struggled to get on the board off the blocks. Philly had two three and outs and two missed field goals on their first five possessions as the Commanders took an early lead from Lincoln Financial Field.

Ekeler brought it back to the 31 but fumbled the ball. Luckily for WAS they recover it and that's where the Commanders start the half. 

WE ARE BACK IN PHILLY FOR THE SECOND HALF OF ACTION!

If we are being honest there wasn't a whole lot to pick from in that first half. Highlights were few and far between as the Eagles missed two field goals and went three and out on four of their first five possessions .

The Commanders haven't been much better, but they got into the end zone thanks to a big catch and run from Austin Ekeler and this 1 yard TD run from Brian Robinson. 

Daniels is 8/13 for 83 yards. Robinson has 38 yards on 6 carries and Ekeler leads all receivers with 61 yards on 5 catches. 

Hurts is 10/19 for 101 yards, Saquon has 56 yards on 15 carries and Brown leads all Eagles receivers with 42 yards on 3 catches. 

WE ARE HEADING TO HALFTIME AND IT'S THE COMMANDERS LEADING 7-3 IN A LOW SCORING GAME IN THE NFC EAST. 

Daniels found Brown for what looked to be a 12 yard gain but after review the called catch was reversed and that's how we are going to go to halftime. 

Daniels hit Ekeler out of the backfield for a gain of 18 yards to give the Commanders ideas of maybe getting points off this late drive.

NFL MVP odds after Week 10: Jackson takes command, Allen right behind, Mahomes falling

Just over the midway point in the season and both of the QBs featured in tonights game are in the MVP conversation. Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen are the frontrunners at the moment, but sitting right behind them are Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts and Jayden Daniels. Both QBs are a long shot at +1300 and +1600 but with plenty of time left in the season they could make a run at the top dogs on the odds board. 

NFC Standings

Taking a look at the NFC standings coming into tonight’s game, we see the Detroit Lions at the top of the pack with their 8-1 record. Right behind them sit the Eagles and Vikings at 7-2. The Packers and Commanders are the only teams in the conference with three losses and then there’s the Falcons, Caridnals and 49ers coming into Week 11 with four losses. It’s all pretty tight right now but as the season goes on we are going to get a better idea of who the elite teams in the NFC are. 

Star watch: Eagles 

This team is stacked with star power, and the addition of Saquon Barkley has taken this team from a Super Bowl hopeful to a Super Bowl expectant. Barkley was brilliant in New York, but he was clouded out by the miserable existence of the Giants franchise. They let him walk this offseason and the Eagles scooped him up in no time. He has been sensational this season He had 109 yards and two TDs in his Eagles debut, and has five 100 yard rushing games so far with 8 total TDs. His 991 yards are second in the league to only Derrick Henry, but more importantly than his numbers is the effect he’s had on the rest of this team. Jalen Hurts has more time the pocket with the defense weary of the run game. The offensive line is giving Hurts more time in the pocket which allows him to pass or scramble and that only helps Brown and Smith develop their patterns down field. This Eagles team is rolling, and Saquon is the reason why. 

Star watch: Commanders 

Jayden Daniels has been far and wide the best rookie of the first half of the season and some change. The No 2 overall pick came into the Nation’s capital a bit over shadowed by Caleb Williams, but he has shown that he was the most NFL ready QB in the draft, and maybe that we have ever seen in his first year. Last year we saw C.J. Stroud have one of the best rookie seasons ever, throwing for 4,100 yards, 23 TDs and just 5 INTs while running for 167 yards and 3 TDs. Through 10 games this season, Daniels has 2,147 yards, 9 TDs and has thrown just two INTs and has run for 464 yards and 4 TDs. Stroud took his team to the Divisional Round of the playoffs last year. While the stats matter, Daniels season will ultimately be judged on whether the Commanders make the playoffs, and how far they go. 

Season recap: Eagles 

Philly came into this season with a major shake up on the sidelines as the offense and defensive coordiator’s from last year’s late season collapse were replaced in the offseason. A huge summer acquisition brought Saquon Barkley in and this team came into the season equipped to be a contender. They won their first game over the Packers in Brazil, but then lost two of their next three to start the season 2-2. Devonta Smith and AJ Brown were hurt in the early part of the season but since they have returned the offense has been rolling and Philly has rattled off five straight. They are 7-2 and currently the 2 seed in the NFC, trailing the Lions by a game. 

Season recap: Commanders 

Not much was expected of this Commanders team after a dreadful season last year. With a rookie QB and a new coach on the sideline, no one expected the turn around to be this quick or dramatic. They lost their first game to a tough Tampa Bay Buccaneers team, but then won four in a row as Jayden Daniels took no time adjusting to the speed and physicality of the NFL. At one point the Commanders had the top offense in the league and their QB was the most accurate passer in the game. They would narrowly lose to the Ravens midway through October, but a route of the Panthers, a Hail Mary to down the Bears and a narrow win over the Giants had them at the top of the NFC East last week, but their one point loss to the Steelers dropped them to 7-3. They have won a lot of games, but they are still looking for a statement win over a really good team. They can do that tonight in Philly. 

Last game: Eagles 

Philly had an divisional match up against a hated rival in Dallas last weekend. Normally those games are tough, physical match ups that go down to the wire. Last weeks was no such battle. Jalen Hurts and the Eagles ripped through the Cowboys who saw their starting QB Dak Prescott go down with a season ending injury. It was close for the majority of the first half, but a Dallas Goedert TD catch put the Eagles up 14-6 at half and Philly would pile it on from there. Hurts ended the game with two passing TDs and two rushing TDs as the Eagles starters sat for most of the final quarter in preparation for this game tonight. 

Last game: Commanders 

Washington had one of their biggest tests of the season last week when they took on the Pittsburgh Steelers and their top rated defense. The Commanders had their chances to win the game, but couldn’t close out the Steelers as a little bit of inexperience rose to the surface for the first time all season. They would take the lead heading into halftime after a failed fake punt led to a first quarter TD, and a late second quarter TD run from Austin Ekler. They led by as many as 10 early in the 3rd quarter but the Steelers came battling back. Zach Gonzalez made it a six point game with under 3:00 to go in the third quarter and the Commanders would pick off Russell Wilson and see Josh Warren fumble at the one yard line on their next two possession. The Commanders couldn’t close them out and it ended up costing them as Russell Wilson hit Mike Williams on a 32 yard TD pass to take a one point lead with 2:22 to go. Daniels and the Commanders had a chance to get into field goal range but around midfield the young QB hit Zach Ertz on a 4th down conversion than was ruled inches short of the line to gain.

The Commanders have been the surprise of the season with a rookie QB and a first year coach in Washington. They lost their last game to lost the lead in the division, but they can chance that with a road win here tonight.
