Lions keep playoff hopes alive with 44–30 win over Cowboys
The DetroitLions delivered one of their most complete performances of the season, rolling past the Dallas Cowboys 44–30 in a game that showcased both resilience and balance on both sides of the ball.
Jared Goff turned in one of his sharpest efforts of the year, throwing for 309 yards and a touchdown while distributing the ball efficiently to eight different receivers. Despite entering the night as a game-time decision with a lingering ankle sprain, Amon-Ra St. Brown suited up and made his presence known early, his timing and chemistry with Goff helped extend multiple drives, including a pivotal 37-yard catch that set up Detroit’s late touchdown to put the game out of reach.
Detroit’s ground attack once again played a starring role. Jahmyr Gibbs continued his late-season tear, flashing elite acceleration on his way to multiple rushing scores, while David Montgomery handled the bruising work to keep the Cowboys’ front seven off balance. The Lions finished the night with four rushing touchdowns, leaning on an offensive line that controlled the trenches even with key injuries at guard.
Defensively, Detroit tightened as the game wore on. Dak Prescott threw for 376 yards, but much of it came while trying to keep pace with the Lions’ offensive efficiency. Detroit’s pass rush found its groove in the second half, registering three sacks and generating consistent pressure that stalled several Dallas drives. The turning point came in the fourth quarter when the Lions forced a crucial interception on a deep shot, killing the Cowboys’ best chance at a rally.
With the victory, Detroit improves to 8–5 and stays firmly in the NFC Wild-Card race, carrying momentum into the final month of the season. The Cowboys, meanwhile, fall to 6–6-1 and face long postseason odds after failing to keep pace with a surging Lions team.

GAME TIME!
And we're off in Detroit!
The Cowboys have won the toss and elected to defer. The Lions start us on offense. Here we go!
Almost game time in Deeeeetroit!
Cowboys' defensive surge
Dallas’ three-game win streak has been fueled by a dramatic midseason defensive reset. Since acquiring Quinnen Williams and Logan Wilson at the trade deadline and getting healthier on the back end with the returns of Malik Hooker, Donovan Wilson, and now Trevon Diggs, the Cowboys have transformed from a struggling unit into one of the league’s hottest defenses.
The shift has shown up most in the run game. Over the last three weeks, Dallas has tightened every gap and simplified its fronts, holding opponents to just 62 rushing yards per game, a massive improvement from the 126 yards per game they were surrendering earlier this season. The added interior push from Williams, combined with Wilson’s downhill burst at linebacker, has allowed the Cowboys to dictate games physically for the first time all year.
This defensive turnaround has completely changed Dallas’ identity, and is the biggest reason they’ve climbed back into the playoff conversation entering Week 14.
The Detroit Lions’ O-line woes continue as Ragnow’s comeback fizzles, leaving Lions’ offense facing a brutal Dallas Cowboys front Thursday.
Amon-Ra's incredible comeback
The injury Amon-Ra St. Brown suffered last week, a low ankle sprain, normally sidelines players for up to two weeks. But St. Brown was determined to play against the Cowboys in this critical match. And if he's playing at full capacity, that's great news for the Lions.
St. Brown's impact on the field is palpable. Check out these comparisons: When he's on the field, the Lions are No. 1 in yards per play; when he's off the field, they're No. 25. When he's on the field, the Lions are No. 2 in efficiency; when he's off the field, they're No. 16. So you could say they're pretty happy to have him on the field tonight against the revamped Cowboys defense.
Last year’s brutal beating: Detroit 47, Dallas 9
These are two different teams this year, and the Cowboys should be thankful for that. But Jerry Jones hasn’t forgotten what went down last year, and I’m sure the players haven’t either.
It was October 13, 2024 and the Lions crushed the Cowboys 47–9 in Dallas. The Lions rolled up 492 total yards, with QB Jared Goff throwing for 315 yards and three touchdowns, while RB David Montgomery added two rushing TDs. Detroit’s defense forced five turnovers and held Dallas to just 251 total yards, their worst home loss since 1988.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reflected on the defeat ahead of the game, with pain still clearly in his voice: “I can’t get that 40 points that they hung on us out of my mind right here at home.”
The Cowboys have a chance to redeem themselves in the Lions’ den tonight.

Cowboys-Lions Injury Report: St. Brown ACTIVE
Lions Injury Report
Detroit enters Week 14 banged up at several key spots, but the biggest headline is a positive one: Amon-Ra St. Brown is officially ACTIVE. Despite a lower-ankle sprain suffered on Thanksgiving and early expectations he’d miss 1–2 weeks, St. Brown moved well in warmups and will suit up tonight. His availability is a massive boost for a Lions offense short on pass-catchers.
Detroit will, however, be without several starters. Safety Kerby Joseph (knee) is out, thinning an already-stressed secondary. Starting left guard Kayode Awosika (foot) was downgraded to out on Thursday, further complicating Detroit’s offensive-line continuity. WR Kalif Raymond also remains sidelined with an ankle injury. The team recently placed TE Brock Wright on IR, while WRs Tom Kennedy, Jameson Williams, and Isaac TeSlaa are expected to rotate more snaps to support St. Brown’s limited workload.

Cowboys Injury Report
Dallas’ biggest concern entering tonight became reality: DE Jadeveon Clowney is OUT after testing his hamstring pregame. His absence significantly impacts the Cowboys’ edge run defense, especially dangerous against Detroit’s outside-zone rushing attack. Expect Dante Fowler Jr., Sam Williams, and elevated practice-squad DE Isaiah Land to fill the void. Also notably missing from the lineup is CB Trevon Diggs, who Dallas was hoping to take off IR this week.
Starting LT Tyler Guyton (ankle) will miss another game, leaving backup Nate Thomas to protect Dak Prescott’s blind side against a strong Lions front. The Cowboys’ depth chart also thins slightly at receiver and running back, where Jalen Tolbert and Jaydon Blue continue to rotate as healthy scratches.

High-stakes Thursday Night showdown
The Cowboys and Lions are facing off in a virtual playoff elimination game. A win could boost Detroit’s postseason chances to 54% and keep them alive in the NFC North, while a loss would drop them to just 10%. Dallas, riding a three-game win streak, can increase its playoff odds from 25% to 42% with a victory.
Lions and Cowboys: Their 2025 seasons so far
Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys have turned their 2025 season around after a rocky start, rattling off a three-game winning streak to reach 6-5-1. Dak Prescott has been at the center of a high-powered offense, connecting consistently with CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, while the team’s defense has stabilized thanks to recent additions like Quinnen Williams and Logan Wilson. Dallas now sits just outside the playoff picture, with Thursday’s game offering a crucial chance to boost its postseason odds.
Lions
The Detroit Lions enter Week 14 at 7-5, struggling to maintain their footing in the NFC North. The Lions were dealt a tough blow with a 31-24 Thanksgiving loss to the Green Bay Packers, dropping their playoff probabilities. Injuries, including a questionable Amon-Ra St. Brown, and uneven offensive line play have further complicated their season. Despite these challenges, Detroit remains just a half-game ahead of Dallas, making Thursday night’s clash at Ford Field pivotal for both teams’ postseason hopes.
