What's left for the rest of the pack?

It’s not just the Pats or the Chargers that could sneak in and win the AFC. The Jags have a chance at the one seed as well after beating Denver last week. The Pats have a trip to New York to play the Jets and finish off the season at Miami. The Chargers have a tough matchup against the Houston Texans at home before going to Denver to finish off the season against the Broncos. The Jags will travel to Indy and then play the Titans at home and they will be hoping for a slip up of the Broncos and the Pats to have a chance at the one seed.

What's left: Broncos

The Broncos have two more games left and know if they win out they get the one seed, the first round bye and home field throughout the playoffs. It’s been a long road back to relevance for the Denver Broncos who haven’t won a playoff game in a decade. The last post season game they won was the Super Bowl back in 2016. Now they have the Chiefs and the Charges in Week 18 and if they win those two games they will be the regular season champs in the AFC. They control their own destiny but if the Chargers beat them on Week 18, then they would go from the one seed to a Wild Card heading into the playoffs.

Could it be?

Is this the end? That's the question looming over Arrowhead lately. The Chiefs didn’t win the AFC West for the first time in 9 seasons. They aren’t going to the playoffs, and Patrick Mahomes is going to be out with injury well into next season. All dynasties have to come to an end at some point, but Mahomes and the Chiefs will be hoping that this is just a pause in the dynasty much like the New England Patriots had during their dynasty.

NFL

AFC Standings

It’s tight at the top of the AFC. The Denver Broncos are currently sitting in first place in the conference with a record of 12-3, and they hold the tie breaker over the New England Patriots who are also 12-3. Both the Jaguars and the Chargers are sitting right behind those two waiting for any slip up from the Pats or Broncs over the next two weeks. It’s going to go down to the wire in the AFC, and the playoff seeding most likely won’t be decided until the very last week of the season.

Star watch: Chiefs

Who the heck is Chris Oladokun? Before last week no one outside of Kansas City knew who he was and this week he has the unenviable job of taking over the starting role with no chance of the playoffs. In a way it might be a blessing to be thrown into this no pressure situation. Oladokun played at South Dakota State, and was drafted by the Steelers in the 7th round back in 2022. Last year was the first time he was put into a game and he didn't throw a single pass.  He went 11/16 for 111 yards last week in his first NFL action and today were are going to get a much better look at Oladokun.

Star watch: Broncos

The Broncos turnaround isn't just on the shoulder of Bo Nix, but the QB that Sean Payton desperately wanted in the NFL Draft a couple years ago has proven to be exactly what Denver needed to turn things around. He’s not putting up jaw dropping numbers, or MVP stats, but he’s doing the things that his team needs him to do to win, especially late in games. He had four TD passes against the Denver Broncos two weeks ago, and and has 24 on the year, but has also thrown 10 INTs while passing for 3,608 yards. He’s not in the MVP conversation, but he is in the one seed in the AFC conversation and for him, his coach and his team that is much more important.

Last game: Broncos

The Broncos are looking to bounce back from their first lost since September. They took on the Jacksonville Jaguars went into Denver and Trevor Lawrence picked apart this Broncos defense for three TDs and 279 yards and added another one on the ground. The game was tied in the 3rd quarter, but the Jags scored on three straight possessions to take a 34-17 lead and they cruised to victory to snap the Broncos 11 game win streak.

We are live from Arrowhead

Hello everyone and Merry Christmas, welcome to Kansas City where the Chiefs are in a position they haven't been in in a really long time. Their playoff chances are done, their QB is out for the season and it’s them who are trying to play spoiler tonight from Arrowhead. The Broncos have done a complete 180 over the last couple years and now they aren’t just fighting to win the division but to win the AFC one seed, a first round bye, and home field advantage. It’s a must win for Denver, and a chance to play spoiler for their hated division rivals.

Broncos vs. Chiefs

It's a late season AFC West showdown with a bit of a different feel to it.
