Cowboys improve; Jets look doomed
The Dallas Cowboys improved to 2-2-1 after their 37-22 win over the New York Jets on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Jets suffered their fifth straight loss to fall to 0-5, becoming the first team in NFL history to start a season 0-5 with zero takeaways.
COWBOYS
Despite missing four starters on the offensive line, including Tyler Smith, Tyler Guyton, Tyler Booker, and Cooper Beebe, quarterback DakPrescott led the Cowboys to victory, finishing with 18-of-29 completions for 237 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions and just one sack. Two of those touchdowns were scored by tight end Jake Ferguson, who's become a favorite target of Dak's, especially with WR CeeDee Lamb sidelined.
Running back Javonte Williams led the team in rushing with 16 carries for 135 yards and a touchdown, and had one 66- yard run just short of the end zone to set up one of Ferguson's TDs. Wide receiver Ryan Flournoy led the team in passing with six catches for 114 yards, including a 46-yard run just short of the end zone that set Williams' TD. Wide receiver George Pickens was just after Williams on the leaderboard with two catches for 57 yards and a touchdown.
Dallas’ defense, which has struggled without Micah Parsons, showed signs of improvement with five sacks of Jets QB Justin Fields and held New York’s offense in check until garbage time. The win gave head coach Brian Schottenheimer a bit of poetic symmetry - a victory over the team he once served as offensive coordinator for (2006–2011) - and marked a much-needed rebound after last week’s 40-40 tie with Green Bay.
JETS
Jets' new head coach Aaron Glenn is now the first coach in franchise history to begin his tenure with five straight losses.
Fields had a busy but frustrating day, completing 32 of 46 passes for 283 yards and two late touchdowns - to fullback Andrew Beck and wide receiver Garrett Wilson - along with two successful 2-point conversions. However, most of the Jets’ offense came after the game was already out of reach.
Running back Breece Hall was one of the few bright spots, rushing for 113 yards and adding 42 receiving yards, but his costly second-quarter fumble set up a Dallas touchdown that shifted the game’s momentum. The Jets had taken an early 3-0 lead on a Nick Folk field goal, but from there, the offense stalled and the defense struggled to contain Prescott and the Cowboys.
Despite showing flashes, including a promising opening drive with three third-down conversions, the Jets’ recurring mistakes and lack of execution left them winless through five games, matching their worst start since 2020.
UP NEXT:
The Cowboys will face the Carolina Panthers on the road next Sunday, while the Jets head overseas to face the Minnesota Vikings in London on Sunday.

GAME TIME!
Here we gooooo!
The Jets start us on offense!
Considering the Dallas Cowboys' 1-2-1 record through four weeks, you wouldn't expect their quarterback to top the leaderboard in this stat, and yet...
Can the Cowboys stop Justin Fields' run game?
Quarterback Justin Fields has rushed for 259 yards in the Jets' first four games - first among all QBs. That includes a 43-yard touchdown run against the Dolphins.
This does not bode well for the Cowboys, who've been terrible against running QBs this season. Quarterbacks have 122 rushing yards against the Cowboys so far this season.
Juanyeh Thomas' first 2025 start is against his brother
With Cowboys safety Malik Hooker out with a toe injury, Juanyeh Thomas will get the start - an opportunity he says he’s been preparing for all along.
Thomas, who’s made a name for himself on special teams (including blocking an extra point against Green Bay that turned into a defensive two-point conversion), said he’s ready to step in without changing his approach. “I prep like a starter every week,” he said.
The Cowboys’ defense has struggled mightily this season, ranking last in the NFL in yards allowed, passing yards allowed, and third-down defense, as well as 31st in points allowed. Still, Thomas believes improvement is coming: “It’s been rough the past four games, but we’re going to get it right.”
This week’s game adds a personal twist. Thomas will face off against his younger brother, Azareye’h Thomas, a rookie cornerback for the New York Jets. The two plan to exchange jerseys and take a photo with their mom, Stephanie, after the game. She’ll be repping both teams.

New York Jets Injury Report
The Jets are missing cornerback Michael Carter II and running back/kick returner Kene Nwangwu, while defensive end Jermaine Johnson remains sidelined with an ankle injury.
In Carter’s absence, newly acquired Jarvis Brownlee Jr. will make his Jets debut at nickel corner. With Nwangwu out, Avery Williams has been elevated from the practice squad to handle return duties. Tight ends Jelani Woods and Stone Smartt are inactive, leaving the Jets thin at the position but activating wide receiver Tyler Johnson for the matchup.

Dallas Cowboys Injury Report
Injuries have decimated the Cowboys' roster lately. CeeDee Lamb, Tyler Booker, Tyler Guyton, KaVontae Turpin, and Miles Sanders are all out, while veteran safety Malik Hooker was placed on injured reserve. Several other players, including guard Tyler Smith, are listed as questionable.
One bright spot is the anticipated NFL debut of rookie running back Jaydon Blue, who could bring a jolt of energy to a battered offense.

The Cowboys' 2025 season so far
The Cowboys currently sit at 1–2–1, placing them third in the NFC East. On the offensive side, Dallas is among the league leaders in total yards - 1,682 offensive yards through early games.
Dak Prescott leads the team with 1,119 passing yards through four games, while Javonte Williams has been the top rusher with 312 yards. Wide receiver George Pickens has emerged as a go-to target, topping the receiving charts with 300 yards.
However, the defense has been a major liability. They allow 420.5 yards per game, ranking 31st out of 32 teams, and struggle especially in pass coverage.
One of the more dramatic recent games was a 40–40 overtime tie against Green Bay, in which Prescott threw for 319 yards and three touchdowns, but the Cowboys couldn’t finish it off. With injuries piling on in the secondary (the latest being safety Malik Hooker heading to IR) and defensive personnel changes needed after the Micah Parsons trade, Dallas is leaning heavily on its offense to stay in games.
So far, the Cowboys are a paradox: they look elite on paper in some areas, but their glaring defensive flaws and inconsistency threaten to derail the season.
The Jets' 2025 season so far
The New York Jets are off to another rough 0–4 start, but there are signs of life under first-year head coach Aaron Glenn. While familiar mistakes and penalties continue to cost them, the team has shown more fight and progress than in years past. Offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand has brought new energy to the offense with a run-heavy identity that’s paying off. The Jets rank third in the NFL in rushing yards per game (144.5), a huge improvement from recent years.
Quarterback Justin Fields has also been a bright spot, showing growth as both a passer and runner. He hasn’t thrown an interception this season, is completing 65% of his passes, and has accounted for five total touchdowns, giving the Jets a level of excitement at quarterback they haven’t had in a long time.
But the problems are hard to ignore. Several veteran defenders, including Sauce Gardner and Michael Carter II, have underperformed, and new general manager Darren Mougey’s first free-agent class hasn’t delivered much early success. While he’s been aggressive in making in-season moves to fill holes, the overall roster still lacks proven talent and depth.
The biggest issue, though, remains discipline. The Jets have been flagged 32 times for 289 yards through four games, and those mistakes continue to derail winnable moments. On defense, Steve Wilks’ unit has struggled badly. It’s the only defense in the league yet to force a turnover and ranks near the bottom in sacks and overall consistency.
