A quarter of a century in and this team is the most successful
Twenty-five years into the new century, Mexican soccer’s trophy count reveals who adapted, who dominated and who fell behind.

Since the turn of the millennium, several teams have raised their level and some have drawn level in silverware with the country’s most popular clubs. Twenty-five years on, Club América’s sustained dominance in Mexican soccer has kept the Águilas firmly among the elite.
Since 2000, the Coapa side has amassed 18 major titles across domestic and international competitions: eight Liga MX championships, one Copa MX, three Campeón de Campeones crowns, one Liga MX Super Cup, three CONCACAF Champions Cups, one CONCACAF Giants Cup and one Campeones Cup.

One step below are Toluca’s Diablos Rojos, the current back-to-back champions of Mexican soccer. Toluca’s resurgence as a modern Liga MX powerhouse is reflected in their haul of seven Liga MX titles, three Campeón de Campeones trophies, one Campeones Cup and one CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Clubs following América
Tigres have collected six Liga MX titles, one Copa MX, four Campeón de Campeones trophies and one CONCACAF Champions Cup, cementing their status as one of the most successful teams of the 21st century. Monterrey’s Rayados, meanwhile, have won four Liga MX championships, two Copa MX titles, one Campeón de Campeones and five Concacaf Champions Cups, making them the most dominant Mexican club in continental competition.
Despite being considered traditional giants, Cruz Azul, Pumas and Chivas are far from the top of the list of the most successful teams of the millennium. The decline of historic Liga MX powerhouses is evident in Cruz Azul’s seven trophies: one Liga MX, two Copa MX titles, one Supercopa MX, one Campeón de Campeones and two CONCACAF Champions Cups.
Chivas, for their part, have claimed six titles – two Liga MX championships, two Copa MX trophies, one Supercopa MX and one CONCACAF Champions Cup – underscoring their struggles to match past glories in the modern era.
It is also worth noting that Pumas UNAM are the club with the fewest titles so far this millennium. Pumas’ limited success since 2000 amounts to four Liga MX championships and one Campeón de Campeones.
