Aaron Long has finally made a decision on his future, the defender opting to join Los Angeles FC ahead of the 2023 MLS season. The United States international arrives as a free agent, signing a two-year contract with the Black & Gold.

Long decides to stay in MLS

Aaron is among the top central defenders in MLS and the U.S. National Team pool, and we are incredibly excited he has chosen to come to LAFC,” LAFC Co-President & General Manager John Thorrington said.

We are confident that Aaron’s ability and experience will prove to be an important part of our continued success as a club. I would like to thank his representative, Shaun Higgins, for his help throughout the process. Our supporters and entire organization look forward to welcoming Aaron, his wife Elise, and their family to LA.”

The 30-year-old spent the past seven seasons with the New York Red Bulls and had several offers on the table from other MLS and European clubs following his participation with the United States at the 2022 World Cup. Long didn’t play a single match at the tournament, but he has appeared 29 times for the USMNT, scoring three goals and supplying two assists in all competitions.

The California native made 175 appearances for the New York Red Bulls, 169 as a starter, and registered 14 goals and six assists. Long has international experience as he made 15 appearances in the CONCACAF Champions League and played two games during the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in CONCACAF.
