AC Milan to go all out for Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio
Italy’s ‘Beckham Law’ would allow AC Milan to pay his current salary, around €5M. Initial contacts with the player have been established.
AC Milan are keen to continue their tradition of signing Real Madrid players. After acquiring Theo Hernández, who has since gone on to become the best player in his position in Serie A, and Brahim on loan until 2023 but without the option to buy (his situation will be dealt with this summer), now the Rossoneri have added another madridista to their shopping list: Marco Asensio.
The winger would be the perfect addition to Milan’s attack - they have spent the past few years looking for a top level forward to occupy the right flank. And AS understands that Milan’s top brass have already initiated contacts with Madrid with a view to get the operation in motion in June - even though the player still has a year left to run on his contract.
Thanks to the Decreto Crescita, the Italian version of the ‘Beckham Law’, Milan will be able to meet Asensio’s current salary, which is around five million euros after tax. However at San Siro, club chiefs are aware that if a Premier League club enters the fray and offers better terms, it will be even more complicated to convince the player to sign.
Ideal signing
At 26, for his age and characteristics, Asensio would make an ideal signing for Milan, for whom he would bring quality and international experience. That is something in demand within a Milan side whose objective is to go as far as possible in Europe next season. Asensio would fit into Stefano Pioli’s 4-2-3-1 system perfectly - as confirmed by Artificial Intelligence software. Olocip forecasting tool predicts that Asensio would improve his attacking figures (82, +6) and improve in defence (65, +3), reaching a total rating of 95 - which would make him the third best player in his position in Serie A, just behind Chiesa and Berardi (both on 98).
Negotiations between the two clubs have yet to get underway but Paolo Maldini could get a headstart on the competition thanks to his close relationship with Madrid’s technical department. Obviously, much will depend on what Asensio has to say about it. This season, he has scored a total of 10 goals in 34 games, and made 15 start in LaLiga in 26 appearances. Milan are eager to turn him into their new superstar.
