For Club América, 2025 was nothing short of a nightmare - a year where everything slipped through their fingers. After swallowing that bitter pill, there’s no time for rest in Coapa. Planning for the Clausura 2026 is already underway, and that means roster moves. Fans are hoping for big signings, but first, there are several departures to manage. One of the most talked-about? The much-criticized Kevin Álvarez.

A disappointing chapter for Álvarez

The right back arrived at América ahead of the Apertura 2023, a period that marked the start of a golden era for Los Azulcremas. But the reality is his performance never truly took off, and at times he was virtually irrelevant. Recently, his playing time had already dropped significantly, but a serious injury to Dagoberto Espinoza left head coach André Jardine with little choice but to rely on him. Now, it seems that patience has finally run out.

Back to Grupo Pachuca?

According to Fox Sports reporter Paco Montes, América has offered Álvarez to Club León. It’s worth noting that Álvarez began his career with Grupo Pachuca, specifically with Los Tuzos, so a return wouldn’t be far-fetched. However, Montes adds that while negotiations are underway, León has at least a couple of other options for that position.

Álvarez’s numbers with América

In two years wearing the América jersey, here’s what Álvarez’s career with the 16-time Mexican champions has yielded:

  • 96 appearances
  • 5 goals
  • 10 assists
  • 3 Liga MX titles
  • 1 Campeón de Campeones
  • 1 Supercopa MX
  • 1 Campeones Cup

During this stretch, he missed significant time for various reasons, with a lingering pubalgia being the most notable setback. According to Transfermarkt, his contract with América runs until mid-2027, and his current market value is around €3 million ($3.5 million).
