Following Germán Berterame’s move to Inter Miami, Liga MX club Monterrey is targeting Atlas and Montenegro star Uros Durdevic as the striker’s replacement.

Negotiations for Durdevic are at an advanced stage and are expected to be completed in the coming days - especially with the registration window closing on February 9.

A Berterame replacement with an “advantage”

The Atlas forward would arrive with full adaptation to Liga MX - a factor that Monterrey head coach Domènec Torrent highlighted when asked about the hunt for reinforcements. With the Clausura 2026 already underway - and the CONCACAF Champions Cup running in parallel - he needs someone who can deliver immediately.

“There are players who can replace Germán - maybe not with the same qualities - but who know Mexican soccer, and that’s an advantage because they’re used to the league,” Torrent told a press conference after Saturday’s draw against Tijuana.

Durdevic was the only domestically based option for Rayados. The other names on the table were Colombia’s Rafael Santos Borré, who plays for Brazil’s Internacional, and the Brazilian Rafael Navarro, who is at Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer.

Will Rayados sign anyone else before Feb. 9?

Durdevic’s mooted signing is expected to be Monterrey’s final business of the transfer window. Indeed, Rayados believed their roster was already set until Inter Miami came in aggressively for Berterame, a move they hadn’t counted on.

Durdevic was in action this past weekend with Atlas, scoring the winner in a 1-0 victory over Mazatlán.
