Monterrey have wrapped up their Club World Cup campaign and are back in Mexico, shifting focus to upcoming commitments in the Liga MX and the Leagues Cup.

After arriving in Nuevo León, Rayados sporting president José Antonio Noriega indicated that the team is unlikely to bring in additional reinforcements.

Los Albiazules competed in the Club World Cup group stage against Inter Milan, River Plate, and Urawa Red Diamonds, earning two draws and a win. In the round of 16, they faced Borussia Dortmund and, despite the loss, were widely seen as the better side throughout the match.

“I think we’re well-rounded”

Monterrey’s performance left a strong impression on both the front office and coaching staff, leading them to believe that no further signings are necessary. The only addition prior to the tournament was goalkeeper Santiago Mele.

“It’s unlikely, very unlikely [that any more signings will be made] - I think we’re well-rounded,” Noriega told reporters at Monterrey International Airport.

“[Head coach] ‘Dome’ [Torrent] and the coaching staff are happy and confident that we can compete at a high level with this group. We have quality players in every position - more than one option for each.”

Noriega continued: “We also have our youth system. Some players who had been getting significant minutes didn’t see much action in the Club World Cup, and that speaks to the depth we have to compete in both competitions [the Liga MX’s Apertura 2025 and the 2025 Leagues Cup].

Noriega denies Boca talk, set to meet Andrada

Amid rumors of potential departures, reports have linked Jorge Rodríguez with a move to Boca Juniors. However, Noriega denied any formal interest from the Argentine club.

He added that Monterrey will soon meet with Esteban Andrada to discuss his future. With Mele’s arrival, Rayados must free up a non-homegrown player slot, and all signs point to the Argentine goalkeeper being the odd man out.

“We’ll talk with Esteban in the coming days. If there’s anything to discuss, he’ll be the first to know - it won’t come from the media, it’ll come from us,” Noriega emphasized.

When is Monterrey’s first game in the Apertura 2025?

Rayados are set to kick off their Apertura 2025 campaign against Pachuca on July 13. The squad will take a short break before returning to training on Monday, July 7. The team’s Leagues Cup duties begin at the end of the month, with a trip to face Cincinnati on July 31.
