A do-or-die game for Ajax

Ajax started their Champions League campaign with a 4-0 win against Glasgow Rangers, but after that Alfred Schreuder’s squad lost three successive games, which has left them with three points, six adrift of their opponents Liverpool in the standings.

They now must defeat the English giants and hope that Napoli do the same on the final matchday if they want to be among the best 16 teams in Europe.

Ajax will try to extend their efficiency vs. Liverpool, as they scored 15 goals in their last three Eredivisie games to open up a four-point gap over PSV Eindhoven at the top of the table.

The hosts probably haven’t forgotten their most significant result back in 2019, when they were about to qualify for the Champions League final till Lucas Moura’s last-gasp winner sent Tottenham Hotspur through at their expense, and they will probably want to give their fans such a thrilling feeling by defeating the favorites.

Liverpool fighting for the top spot

As for Liverpool, they had a strange week in the Premier League, as they defeated Manchester City and West Ham both 1-0, but lost by the reverse scoreline to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The positive news for Klopp is that they have been playing better football than in the first weeks of the season when they struggled to beat Ajax at home last month. They will try to get an important win and hope Napoli can’t defeat Rangers.

Ajax will be without Ahmetcan Kaplan, Devyne Rensch, and Mohamed Ihattaren due to injuries, while midfielder Kenneth Taylor will be available to play.

Meanwhile, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Thiago Alcántara, and Joel Matip won’t be available for Liverpool due to injuries, but Darwin Núñez, and Ibrahima Konate could play in Amsterdam.
