Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal are a solitary victory away from 28 consecutive wins. One more win for the Riyadh based side would see Jorge Jesus’ side achieve one of the most difficult records in football, that of the longest streak of consecutive wins with the next game coming up against Al Ittihad.

At present, Welsh side The New Saints hold this accolade when they recorded 27 consecutive victories in its domestic league in the 2016-17 season and in doing so broke the 44 year old record which was previously held by Dutch giants Ajax. The Amsterdam club beat their own previous 1955 record of 25 straight wins when they went on a winning streak of 26 straight games between 1971 and 1972.

Best consecutive winning streaks

  • The New Saints: 27 (2016-2017)
  • Al Hilal: 26 (2023-2024)
  • Ajax: 26 (1971-1972)
  • Ajax: 25 (1955)
  • Coritiba: 24 (2011)
  • Bayern Munich: 23 (2020)
  • Real Madrid: 22 (2014)
  • Manchester City: 21 (2020-2021)
  • Rangers: 20 (2013)

Al Hilal aiming to make history

With Friday’s 1-3 win away to Al Riyadh, the Blue Waves have drawn level with Welsh club with a 1-3 victory and goals from Neves, Michael and Mitrovic. The team’s success has come ironically with their flagship player Neymar still recovering from injury but team-mates such as Bono, Koulibaly; Milinkovic-Savic; Mitrovic; Malcom, Rúben Neves and Lodi have turned Al Hilal into an unstoppable force.

Al Hilal now just have to beat Al Ittihad at home this Tuesday in the second leg of the Asian Champions quarterfinals and would reach the 28 consecutive game win milestone and progress to the semi-final of the competition.
