Al Nassr denies Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract speculation

It was a move that divided opinion, as the Saudi club makes it clear that Cristiano’s contract has nothing to do with any World Cup candidacy.

The signing of Cristiano Ronaldo by Al Nassr FC included much speculation over a possible agreement that was in place for the Portuguese striker to be the image of Saudi Arabia, in its attempt to host the 2030 World Cup in the country. This would, of course, clash with the interests of Portugal, since the nation where Cristiano was born is also going to present itself as suitable hosts for the FIFA showpiece in a joint bid with Spain.

Another of the faces that the Saudis have prepared to try to win that World Cup bid is Lionel Messi, who has been an ambassador of the country since last year. The two stars of world soccer over the last decade and more could be lined up to further the region’s ambitions.

Al Nassr, however, have come out against this speculation and deny that Cristiano’s contract with them has anything to do with being a future image of the country for the 2030 World Cup.

“Al Nassr FC would like to clarify that contrary to news reports, Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract with Al Nassr does not entail commitments to any World Cup bids,” the statement read.

“His main focus is on Al Nassr and to work with his team-mates to help the club achieve success.”

The world, well a decent chunk of it, awaits Ronaldo’s latest debut.
