Kylian Mbappé endured one of his darkest nights as a professional in Montpellier. The striker was clearly motivated ahead of the game but his playing-time barely lasted 19 minutes. The PSG star managed to miss two penalties, both in one minute and then had to be replaced as he limped from the pitch due to a muscle injury.

Benjamin Lecomte guessed Mbappe’s intention with both spot kicks his side with the French striker blazing over with the goal at his mercy from the retaken penalty after the former Espanyol keeper was have adjudged to be off his line for the first of the two penalty kicks.

Shortly after the 20 minute mark, the French international was forced to leave the pitch due to an apparently muscular injury and was replaced by Hugo Ekitike.

According to L’Équipe, the PSG forward is now doubtful for the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Bayern on 14 February at the Parc des Princes. Mbappé will undergo tests later this morning that will clarify the extent of the injury and determine if he could be available for the first game of a crucial tie for the club.

PSG and head coach Galtier were cautious after the event but footage of Mbappe limping from the Stade de la Mosson suggests that the PSG coach’s claims that the injury “does not seem serious” may be wide of the mark.
