Both USMNT stars, Zendejas and Vazquez will face off in the final as América face Monterrey in the Apertura final.

Alex Zendejas vs Brandon Vazquez in Liga MX Apertura final

New USNMT boss Mauricio Pochettino will no doubt be tuning into the Liga MX Apertura final as Club America featuring Alex Zendejas take on Brandon Vázquez and his Monterrey side.

Both players recently started for the US in the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Nations League, coming on as substitutes in both games against Jamaica.

Zendejas, a regular for the ‘Aguilas’

Winger Zendejas has become a key player for Club America coach André Jardine fielding the player regularly. The 26-year-old opened the scoring in the 4-3 second leg semi-final win over Cruz Azul with a cross shot that was impossible for goalkeeper Kevin Mier to stop.

Since his return from injury from a fractured fibula, Zendejas has played eight of the past 10 matches as a starter, and is expected to be in the initial XI in the final first-leg against Monterrey on Thursday.

The Juarez born player has bagged four goals for the Mexico City giants during both the regular season and playoff campaign.

Vazquez on the Rayados fringe

The other US star to grace the 2024 Apertura final, Brandon Vazquez has had less of a high profile campaign for Monterrey and his contribution to the Rayados season sees the striker living in the shadow of the Argentine Germán Berterame, who is number one forward for Martín Demichelis' team.

The 26-year-old has only started four games in the regular tournament for Rayados, scoring in three of those matches, only failing to find the target in the goalless draw against Mazatlán.

In the 5-1 mauling of Atletico de San Luis, the California born was an 82nd substitute for Berterame and bagged the fifth goal in added time.

The 2024 Liga MX Apertura first leg takes place in Mexico City on Thursday with the return leg earmarked for the Estadio BBVA in Monterrey the following Sunday (15 December).
