Alexia Putellas, Spain’s No.1 fan at Euro 2022
The midfielder did not miss Spain’s last training session before the debut against Finland. Even though he had to do it on crutches.
It was the most searched-for image of the day. Alexia Putellas reappeared in public today, her first appearance since she suffered a serious knee injury. The Barcelona and Spain star tore the ACL in her left knee during Tuesday’s training session in Milton Keynes - a warm-up for Friday’s opener against Finland. Arriving at the training ground on crutches, the Ballon d’Or holder did not want to miss a single minute of her team-mates’s final preparations. Jorge Vilda’s team will be aiming to get their Euro 2022 campaign off to a positive start having landed in a tough group alongside seven-time winners Germany and Denmark, the runners-up in the last edition.
The Spain squad got down to work at Stadium MK and a few minutes later, Alexia turned up - alone, on two crutches that helped her make her way to one of the benches. There she sat, with her leg raised, follow the team’s workout first-hand. She watched alone for a while, and then was seen happily chatting with Rafael del Amo and Luis Rubiales. Alexia recorded the moment for posterity on her mobile.
The injured Spanish forward has decided to stay at least until the first game to give her team mates emotional support. After that, she may return home to Spain were doctors can examine her left knee. The road to recovery will be long and arduous, but she will return stronger, make no mistake about it.
