Alphonso Davies becomes the Canadian player with most Champions League appearances
The former Vancouver Whitecaps full-back made his 24th appearance in the UEFA Champions League surpassing compatriot Atiba Hutchinson.
Alphonso Davies is considered one of the best left-backs in the world and quickly adapted to Bayern Munich since joining the Bundesliga side in 2019 from Vancouver Whitecaps in Major League Soccer. The 21-year-old has shown great pace, dribbling and creativity and immediately took over the left-back position with the German giants.
On Tuesday, Alphonso Davies became the Canadian player with the most appearances in the UEFA Champions League in Bayern Munich’s win over Viktoria Plzen. The former Vancouver Whitecaps reached 24 appearances in the most important competition at club level and he surpassed former Canadian international Atiba Hutchinson, who had 23 when he played with Copenhagen, PSV and Besiktas.
Alphonso Davies’ numbers in Europe
During his rookie season with Bayern Munich, Alphonso Davies was part of the team that won the continental treble after winning the UEFA Champions League, the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal during the 2019/20 campaign. In April 2020, the German giants offered the 21-year-old a contract extension until 2025 and he accepted the terms.
Davies also finished in third place for the 2020 Golden Boy award, behind Erling Haaland and Ansu Fati that season. So far this campaign, the 21-year-old has made 11 appearances across all competitions for Bayern Munich and he has provided two assists.
