Winning the Apertura 2023 title was the high point of last year for América but that success attracted attention from European clubs who have been setting their sights on some of the team’s star players. Last week, it was reported that Álvaro Fidalgo, Brian Rodríguez and Sebastián Cáceres are on the winter wants list of clubs in Italy and Spain... Understandably, Azulcrema fans are concerned. But coach André Jardine insists there is nothing to be worried about and sent a message of calm.

After Saturday’s 0-2 victory against Querétaro in matchday 2 of the Clausura 2024, Jardine explained that he is not worried about possible departures. “The club is very organized in the sense that if a player leaves, another one with very similar quality will arrive as a replacement. I have no need to worry” he told reporters.

Players who could leave América

As far as the Brazilian is concerned, it’s perfectly normal for offers to come in from Europe immediately after a championship has concluded - it’s the same every year. “These are normal situations for a team that has quality in its squad - a team that has just become champions. It happens with practically every team when they triumph or win a title - it awakens the interest of many other clubs,” he stressed.

According to TUDN, Brian Rodríguez is the one who could be closest to leaving Coapa. Fiorentina are keen on taking the Uruguayan to Serie A and reportedly ready to pay 10 million euros for his services. Another who has a strong chance of leaving is Sebastián Cáceres who is on Napoli’s radar, while Fidalgo has not received any formal offers but Spanish club Betis have been linked and an offer could arrive at América’s door in the coming days.
