América boss makes major statement on club’s transfer plans
Following Wednesday’s defeat to Atlético San Luis, América head coach André Jardine reiterated the need for one last reinforcement.

A miserable start for Club América: through the opening rounds of the Liga MX Clausura 2026, Las Águilas have picked up just one of six possible points and have yet to score a single goal - a harsh reflection of the much‑criticized roster André Jardine has been forced to work with.
The Coapa side is coming off a 2025 in which they fell short in every competition they entered, and with the pressure to return to prominence as soon as possible, it’s clear that any real movement must come from the front office. Jardine, by now, has proven he doesn’t have the proper tools.
The long‑discussed issue of foreign‑player spots remains the central problem - another responsibility that falls directly on the board. Even so, the 46‑year‑old head coach isn’t ruling out the possibility of solving it and giving the season a jolt with one more signing, though only under the right conditions.
After Wednesday’s 2-0 loss to Atlético San Luis, the Brazilian held his usual post‑match press conference. When asked directly about the possibility of another addition to the squad, he had this to say:
“We talked about it in the last presser. I’m very aware that we’re missing one more move, but inside the club we’re all convinced that we need to wait, be patient. This move is going to get done. It’s not that simple because a player also has to leave for another to arrive - and since we’re talking about a foreign player, that part isn’t settled either because of injuries.”

There are several things to unpack in that statement. First, the obvious: América has 10 players registered as non‑homegrown, nine of whom are already on the official roster - meaning there’s no available slot. According to ESPN, if América manages to bring in another foreign signing, the player who would be pushed out of the plans is Víctor Dávila. The club would need to reach an agreement with the 28‑year‑old Chilean, who, according to Transfermarkt, is under contract through mid‑2027 - making his departure anything but simple.
Second, that final line - “isn’t settled either because of injuries” - is particularly revealing regarding whether América will offload another foreign player. This becomes even more relevant considering the key absences during the opening rounds: Alejandro Zendejas, Erick Sánchez and Henry Martín. It can be interpreted that if any of these players - all with attacking profiles - extends his spell on the injury list, both the coaching staff and the front office may need to reconsider their transfer options, both incoming and outgoing.
