America bring in promising young goalkeeper for the Clausura 2026
The Eagles signed Max Serrano, who is set to be listed with the Under-20 team and fight for a place with the first team.

If everything goes as expected, Club América will be without Luis Ángel Malagón for the Clausura 2026 playoffs. The league has already confirmed that the postseason will be played without national‑team call‑ups, and Malagón is widely expected to be away with Mexico. That’s why América is already searching for goalkeeper depth — and their first move is a young prospect coming out of Toluca’s academy.
The player is Max Serrano, a Mexican‑American keeper who has officially signed with Las Águilas and is expected to join their U‑20 squad. The 19-year-old arrives from Toluca, where he most recently played with the club’s U‑19 team. In his last match , a win over Atlas, was one to forget as he was sent off.

Cota expected to step in
According to multiple reports, América plans for Rodolfo Cota to be the starting goalkeeper during the playoffs. The veteran would take over for Malagón, and the club doesn’t want to be caught short-handed, especially since there’s currently no true backup behind the former León star.
So far, Cota has appeared in 10 matches for América, conceding eight goals. Head coach André Jardine’s management of the position next semester will be crucial, as both Malagón and Cota need to stay in top form.

América’s Clausura 2026 schedule
América opens the Clausura 2026 on Friday, January 9 with an away match against Tijuana. They’ll then host Atlético San Luis in Week 2, visit Pachuca in Week 3, and close out January at home against Necaxa at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes.
