América were keen to remain active during the international break and organised a couple of friendlies in the United States to keep the team competitive. Fernando Ortiz’s Águilas played out a 0-0 draw with Santos Laguna in Los Angeles last week then beat Tijuana 2-1 in San Diego at the weekend. Positive results but with a price - two players picked up injuries and are doubtful for the next match, against León on Saturday at the Azteca.

According to reports by TUDN, Roger Martínez and Federico Viñas were the two América players who succumbed to injury during the international break. Both players they returned from the United States trip with “active injuries”and remain doubtful for this weekend’s game against León.

Key games

León go into the game as one of the most in-form sides in the Liga MX. With four wins from the last four games, the team sits second in the table with 24 points. Just one place and point behind are América, in third on 23 points. The team has radically improved out on the pitch since the Week 10 defeat to Pachuca. The team beat Tigres 0-2 then thrashed Chivas 2-4 in the Clásico Nacional.

There is a possibility that Fernando Ortiz could rotate his team to compensate for the extra workload his players had during the international break. América had nine players out on international duty so they will be evaluated once they arrive back from their respective national teams later this week.
