América look to extend dominant CONCACAF run against MLS opposition
Las Águilas have not lost at home to an MLS team in the Champions Cup since 2015 and will face the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday aiming to keep that streak alive.

Club América have been nearly untouchable at home against MLS opposition, going a decade without defeat in their own stadium against teams from the U.S. The side coached by André Jardine will look to continue that form when they host the Philadelphia Union in the second leg of their CONCACAF Champions Cup round-of-16 series.

Over the past 10 years, the Mexico City club has faced MLS teams at home seven times. América have been dominant in those matchups, winning five and drawing two. The record underlines the team’s consistent edge over MLS opposition in CONCACAF competition.
A daunting home field

Estadio Azteca has long been one of the most intimidating venues in the region. However, América moved to Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes more than a year and a half ago while renovations continue at the historic Azteca, located in the Santa Úrsula neighborhood of Mexico City. They have yet to host an MLS team at their temporary home, meaning their unbeaten run was built entirely at one of the sport’s most iconic stadiums.

That advantage may not carry over. While the venue formerly known as Estadio Azul offers a comfortable setting for fans, it lacks the scale and history of the newly renamed Estadio Banorte, which could influence how América perform.
A place in the quarterfinals on the line
Holding a narrow 1-0 lead, Jardine’s team will aim to close out the series in front of their fans and extend their strong record against MLS opposition. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18 at 9:00 p.m. ET.
