América make the most of fortress Azteca

América have yet to play outside of the Azteca in the Apertura 2023. Due to the rescheduling of their game against Querétaro on matchday 2, together with the fact that their meeting against Atlas could not be held at the Jalisco Stadium due to problems on the field, the Águilas found themselves with five consecutive games at the Coloso Santa de Úrsula. André Jardine’s team took advantage of that fortunate situation to gain results that have them at the top part of the table.

Since the match against Atlas on matchday 4, the date on which Liga MX resumed after the Leagues Cup, América had five matches programmed at the Azteca. In that series of games, the team obtained 11 points from a possible 15 - an excellent return that brings some respite to Jardine and his team that began the campaign with doubts.

América’s home run began with a 1-1 draw against Atlas on 20 August which they followed up with a 3-2 win over Nacaxa the following week. They were held at home by Leon but won the next two games against Cruz Azul and Chivas. In the game against La Máquina, technically, they were ‘administrative visitors’.

Prior to the Leagues Cup break, América also played two games at the Azteca. On matchday 1 they lost 1-2 to Juárez and later on matchday 3 they beat Puebla, so the Águilas have yet to play on the road in the current tournament.

When is América’s first game outside the Azteca in the Apertura 2023?

On Wednesday 20 September América will leave their home for the first time this season. The game is at the Corregidora Stadium against Querétaro in a rescheduled match from matchday 2.

After that, América will play again as a visitor on matchday 9 when they meet against Toluca at the Nemesio Diez next Sunday 24 September.
