América confirm Henry Martín injury
The forward has suffered a Grade I injury to his right calf muscle and will not continue in the Leagues Cup.
América are dealing with an untimely setback for the final stretch of the Leagues Cup. Henry Martín was injured during the warm-up ahead of the team’s last match - the Round of 32 tie against Chicago Fire but no official pronouncement on the degree of his injury had been given until now.
In a message on social media, América confirmed details of the striker’s injury without mentioning an estimated recovery time. It is believed that Martín will miss the remainder of the tournament (which concludes on 19 August) and the resumption of Liga MX.
“Club América informs that our player Henry Martín suffered a Grade I muscle injury of the medial calf in his right leg. The recovery time will be determined by his evolution,” a statement from the Coapa club read.
Unofficial versions suggest that Henry’s injury was the result of the extensive workload he has undertaken in recent months. The 30-year-old has not had a chance to rest since the Liga MX Clausura 2023 ended in May - as soon as the last tournament was over, he was on duty with Mexico for the Nations League and Gold Cup.
América’s Leagues Cup campaign continues on Tuesday with their Round of 16 Leagues Cup tie against Nashville.
