With two goals from Uruguayan Jonathan Cabecita Rodríguez, another from the Argentinean Leonardo Gabriel Suárez and one from top scorer Henry Martín, the Águilas cruised to a four-goal lead and even though Chivas pulled a couple back, on the final whistle it was a scoreline never seen in this fixture. And in a rivalry that polarizes the entire country, América leapfrog Chivas to settle into second place in the table after 12 games in the Clausura 2023.

All over by the break

América took command of the game with three goals before the interval. The score at half-time did justice to the overwhelming pace of Tano Ortiz’s team and set them on their way for an historic victory.

At the start of the second half, América extended their lead through Henry Martín - that looked like it could be the final nail in the coffin for Chivas, but an Emilio Lara own goal and a late consolation strike from Sergio La Morsa Flores eased some of the damage for the localsin what was nevertheless an important victory.

Saturday’s result is the fourth time that América have scored four goals against Chivas in official competition.
