América want Jesús Gallardo banned for injuring Brian Rodríguez
The winger was taken off on 64 minutes after being on the receiving end of a reckless tackle from the Monterrey defender.
América’s 0-3 win over Rayados came with a cost with Brian Rodríguez, Henry Martín and Igor Lichnovski all unable to finish the match through injury. The worst was suffered by Uruguayan winger Brian Rodríguez, who had the full weight of Jesús Gallardo on his left ankle as they disputed a ball from a short corner on the hour mark.
According to Récord, América officials were not happy at all with how the former Pumas player steamrolled their players and even stated that Gallardo is a malicious player. Former Los Angeles FC player Rodríguez revealed that the Mexican defender had threatened him moments before the incident in which he was taken off on a stretcher after several minutes of receiving treatment onfield.
Rodríguez told TUDN afterwards, “His words were: If you keep stepping on me, I’m going to injure you; if you keep kicking or shirt-pulling or doing what you were doing... But I was just playing football. They were going to kick me anyway and that’s how it was”.
Now, the Liga MX Disciplinary Commission is set to open an investigation with the Rayados player, who could face a lengthy ban which would effectively end his season in the Apertura 2023
