A new edition of the Superclásico of Mexican football will be played on Wednesday, but this time in the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Champions League where América and Chivas will be looking to book their place in the semi-finals. Ahead of the game, Águilas coach André Jardiné made it clear that there his side is not going into the game overconfident.

“All the Clásicos receive maximum attention. There are no secrets, I’m at a great club, with great players who help us to succeed in important matches that we will take with the utmost seriousness. There is no overconfidence at any time at América, we respect all our opponents. The favorites thing is a matter for the press and the fans. We never feel we are favorites in games like this. There are no favorites in Clásicos,” said the South American at a press conference.

“In the last match, we won 4-0, but these matches hardly ever end with results like that... they are normally close. I don’t want to generate any expectations and we have to be prepared for a very tough match,” he added.

“Chivas is a team I’ve been following since I’ve been in Mexico. It’s a team with a very clear style, plays with intensity and attacks with lots of players. I respect them a lot. They will be looking to be aggressive and it will be a fight between two teams who will want to impose themselves on their pitch.” The first leg will be played this Wednesday, while the second leg will take place on Wednesday 13 March at the Estadio Azteca.
