André-Pierre Gignac rewriting Tigres’ goal scoring history books
The veteran French striker has now bagged 199 goals in a Tigres shirt and is the third top scorer ever in the Liguilla.
André-Pierre Gignac scored twice in the second leg of the LIGA MX Liguilla quarter-final clash between Tigres and Puebla, and in addition to helping the side from Nuevo Leon to advance to the semi-finals of the Apertura 2023, the Frenchman also moved closer to 200 goals in the Mexican League wearing the famous UANL shirt.
With his double against Puebla, Gignac is now on 199 goals with Tigres and the veteran French striker now moves into the Top 3 in the list of Liga MX top scorers of all time with a single team.
Topping this list is José Saturnino Cardozo, who bagged 257 goals for Toluca between 1995-2005. In second place is Jared Borgetti with 205 goals in the green and white shirt of Santos Laguna (1996-2004) with André-Pierre Gignac who now moves to 199 goals for Tigres.
The striker will look to improve on this tally in the semi-final games against Pumas as Tigres look to add to their 2023 Clausura title.
Liguilla target man
Gignac may struggle to top Cardozo’s all time achievements, but when it comes to the Liguilla (Liga MX post season), the French striker is battling for yet another record.
Gignac’s double against Puebla saw the 38-year-old reached 33 goals in playoffs in short tournament history and now trails José Saturnino Cardozo by ten goals in this particular ranking. The Paraguayan marksman bagged 43 Liguilla goals with Toluca with Borgetti in second place with his 40 Santos Laguna playoff goals.
