It has been confirmed that club legend André-Pierre Gignac has signed a new two-year contract with Tigres and that the striker will finish his career at the club. The Frenchman announced his intention to stay with the Aurizazules to Mexican broadcaster TUDN, revealing his delight that he would be able to celebrate more than 10 years at the club and that his main aim is to end his career in style by firing Tigres to more trophies.

What did André-Pierre Gignac say about his new Tigres contract?

“Being able to finish my career with Tigres has been a dream of mine ever since I arrived, it was a feeling I had. I don’t know why, it’s hard to explain. It’s a feeling that you have deep down inside and I’m pleased to announce that I’ll celebrate 10 years at the club in 2025 and finish my career here. Thanks to the trust that the board of directors and the coaching staff have shown in me, I’ve decided to renew my contract for two more years”, he said on the Línea de 4 show.

“I’ll have another to decision to make about whether I retire when I’m 39. I’ve set myself ambitious targets in terms of goals and trophies, both on a personal and a collective level. I don’t want to retire having just scored goals, I want league titles and trophies. I want us to achieve things as a team so I can enjoy them and celebrate them with my teammates. What I’ve achieved at this club is 70% down to my teammates and the coaching staff”, added the former France international.

Will André-Pierre Gignac move into management...with Tigres?

Gignac admitted that he is coming towards the tail end of his career but refused to confirm or deny rumours claimed by a source close to AS Mexico that he would be looking to move into management: “There’s another step for me after this but I’m still focused on what’s left of my playing career and then you never know. For now, I’m looking forward to completing 10 years here and then we’ll see. It’s almost the end of the road for me as a player but I want to do more for the club, so we’ll see. At the moment I am focused on playing. I have a lot left to give and I’m lucky that the club is trying to sign the best players, that’s a real source of pride”, he added.

How many goals has André-Pierre Gignac scored for Tigres? What trophies has he won?

Tigres officially announced Gignac’s contract renewal as he was doing the interview. In his eight years in San Nicolás de los Garza, the former Marseille attacker has become the club’s all-time leading goalscorer with 178 goals and won four Liga MX titles, three Campéon de Campeones trophies and the CONCACAF Champions League, ensuring he will go down in history as one of Tigres’ greatest ever players.
