Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen was not involved in the team’s matchday squad for Saturday’s FA Cup final against Liverpool. The London club eventually lost the game 6-5 on penalties at Wembley.

Brazilian centre-back Thiago Silva played through a knee problem sustained during the clash.

Christensen has suffered a number of minor injury and illness issues in recent weeks, but his withdrawal from Saturday’s final saw the Blues left without many options in defence.

The 26-year-old joined the club in 2012 from Danish outfit Brondby. The Denmark international is set to complete a move to Barcelona this summer.

Chelsea spell coming to an end

Capped 54 times by Denmark, his availability for Chelsea’s remaining games this season is now uncertain. His absence on Saturday has proven to be a surprise given his lack of injury.

Fellow defender Antonio Rudiger will also move to LaLiga this summer, joining Real Madrid on a deal until 2026.
