Aguilera: the future of Honduras

At just 15, Ángel Aguilera has become the new sensation in the state of Michigan. The teenager played for Midwest United and there he was compared to Lionel Messi because of his style on the pitch. Aguilera was born in the United States, but his parents are from Honduras and he hopes he receives a call up with Los Catrachos in the near future.

I remember on one occasion that they asked my dad if I was Messi and when I heard that I laughed. People would just call me Messi and some coaches recommended that I play in the MLS youth academies to keep developing as a player,” said Aguilera during an interview with El Heraldo.

It has always been clear to me, I want to play for the Honduras national team. They are in a complicated situation right now and we saw that in the last World Cup qualifiers, but I think they can turn things around,” he added.

Aguilera is currently playing with the Chicago Fire youth academy and his dream is also to play in Major League Soccer. The teenager has also been talking to scouts from Club de fútbol Castellon and they are planning to make him in an offer to play in Spain when he turns 18.
