On Friday, Club América visit Puebla with the aim of sealing first place in the Apertura 2022 regular-season standings - a feat that would earn Las Águilas the status of top seeds in the playoffs.

The leaders head into the final round of the league phase one point clear of second-placed Monterrey, who host Pachuca on Saturday.

América on long unbeaten streak in Puebla clashes

Recent history suggests América will get a positive result at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc; indeed, the men from Mexico City have enjoyed an utterly dominant record against La Franja over the past few years.

América are on a 10-game unbeaten run against Puebla. The last time they suffered defeat to the club was four and a half years ago - a 3-1 away reverse in April 2018, in the Clausura 2018 tournament.

Since then, Los Azul-Cremas have recorded eight wins and two draws in meetings between the sides. In clashes at Puebla’s home stadium in that time, América have won three and drawn two.

The Apertura 2022 regular-season matchday-17 game between Puebla and Club América will kick off at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc at 7pm local time (8pm ET, 5pm PT).

While América are guaranteed to finish in the top four and qualify automatically for the playoff quarter-finals, Puebla sit seventh in the table and can no longer finish higher than sixth.

Nicolás Larcamón’s men will be one of eight teams - those that come between fifth and 12th - that will have to negotiate a preliminary playoff round to win a place in the last eight.
