Arda Güler injured again: when could he finally make his debut for Real Madrid?

Turkish youngster Güler had been closing in on his return to action and was even in contention to play against Las Palmas on Wednesday.

Turkish youngster Güler had been closing in on his return to action and was even in contention to play against Las Palmas on Wednesday.

Real Madrid starlet Arda Güler is back on the treatment table right after he had come off it. It’s a cruel blow for the youngster, who had been poised to feature in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the first time in Wednesday’s LaLiga clash at home to Las Palmas.

How much longer will Güler be out for? When could his debut be?

The attacker pulled up towards the end of Tuesday’s training session and tests have shown that he has suffered a thigh injury, which is set to keep him out of action for another two to three weeks. That means his debut won’t come until after the next international break between 9 and 17 October (at the very earliest away to Sevilla on 21 October).

Los Blancos released a statement on their website around an hour after Ancelotti had heaped praise on him in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Las Palmas clash: “He’s available for tomorrow. He needs game time, a bit of physical conditioning and to get used to the team’s style of play, but he’s good to go. In his time with us, he has shown he has extraordinary talent; it’s in his blood,” the Italian said, clearly unaware of the severity of Güler’s training-ground injury.

Thigh issue follows knee injury

Since moving to Spain from Fenerbahçe in July, the 18-year-old hasn’t played a since minute for Real Madrid. He injured his right knee on the pre-season tour of the United States, with tests revealing an issue with his meniscus. After a period of rehabilitation, he underwent minor surgery to remove some debris in his knee, which is a common procedure. Güler had fully recovered from the injury and hadn’t shown know signs of any lasting effects.

For the majority of Tuesday’s session, the Turk had done exactly the same training as the rest of his teammates, convincing Ancelotti he was ready to face Las Palmas. Ultimately, however, he has suffered a second injury in just over two months, this time on the very day he was about to make his return.
