Arda Turan hung up his boots at the start of the season after an up-and-down 2021/22 campaign with Galatasaray. A period of time away from football’s frontline hasn’t lasted long. The past few months have helped Arda to reflect and take the next step in his career. It has become increasingly clear to him - he wants to be a coach. The bench is the next, logical step in his career.

The former Atlético Madrid and Barcelona player has decided to study for his coaching licence and he is now very close to realising his goal. Turkish media assume that Turan is the number one candidate for the Kasimpasa post. The Turkish club parted ways with Selcuk Inan last month and has set its sights on hiring Arda Turan to get the team to the end of the season. Kasimpasa are currently 13th in the table, just two points above the relegation places but one of around 10 teams that will be involved in the relegation battle between now and the end of May.

Arda Turan has not yet signed anything but he is the number one candidate to occupy the coaching post at Kasimpasa - a club that no problem about hiring young coaches. This is not the first time that Arda Turan has been linked to a coaching position - for several months he was considered as an option to manage Turkey’s Under-21 team, but in the end the contacts did not bear fruit.

During his playing days, Arda Turan wore the colours of Galatasaray, Manisaspor, Atlético, Barcelona and Basaksehir. Both at Galatasaray and Atleti, he was an idol for the fans. It was at those two clubs where Arda won the most trophies, he also enjoyed success at Barça but hardly showed the dazzling form he was known for elsewhere. Now, at 36, he is close to making his coaching debut.
