Are Brighton going to sell striker Evan Ferguson?

Brighton forward Ferguson, who is currently injured, is a target for some of the Premier League’s top clubs.

Evan Ferguson is the man of the moment at Brighton & Hove Albion. The 18-year-old striker scored a hat-trick against Newcastle at the beginning of September to further strengthen the belief that this kid has it all.

The forward from Bettystown in Ireland missed Ireland’s recent Euro 2024 qualifiers against France and Holland through injury and remains a doubt for the Premier League match against Manchester United this weekend.

Making his senior debut for Irish Premier Division club Bohemians at the age of 14 turned heads and Ferguson has quickly demonstrated just how lethal he is in front of goal.

Premier League legend Alan Shearer this week spoke in glowing terms about the young Irishman and wrote the following on Twitter on Monday: “Brighton’s Evan Ferguson looks like the real deal. Left foot, right foot, headers, pace, aggression, intuition; there is no obvious weakness to his game. What do I love about him? Everything.”

Ferguson on radar of top Premier League clubs

So, the big question is, are Brighton going to sell their young striker?

Brighton’s model is to sign young talents for lower fees and sell them on to make a profit after playing a part in their development. The best examples of this are Moisés Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister. Brighton like to bet on young talent and this summer they sold World Cup winner Mac Allister to Liverpool and fellow midfielder Caicedo to Chelsea for large fees.

Not selling in January

The Seagulls, who will play in Europe this season, have no intention of selling Ferguson in the January transfer window. Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United have all been linked with a move for the player in recent times.

However, Brighton owner Tony Bloom, in a video message, told supporters that they have no plans to sell any key players.

“I don’t like to do much business in January,” Bloom said, via The Argus. “I can’t foresee any of our main players being sold in January. We just don’t do that. I’m not saying certain players might not be sold but none of our main players.”

Only behind Haaland

As per Opta, Ferguson has nine shots on target over the course of the first four Premier League games. Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is the only player in the Premier League to register more than Ferguson at this point in the season.

At 18, Ferguson will only get better and has already shown that he can become one of the very best in the Premier League.
