PSG have started a club overhaul ahead of next season. After securing the services of Kylian Mbappé on a new three-year deal and with the imminent departure of Mauricio Pochettino, incoming director of football Luis Campos is starting to line up reinforcements in other areas of the squad ahead of the 2022-23 campaign. PSG have made Milan Skriniar a priority target, in a move that could have repercussions for Sergio Ramos. The Ligue 1 giants have tabled an offer of €60m for the Inter Milan and Slovakia defender, casting further doubt on Ramos’ role at the Parc des Princes next season. The veteran defender joined PSG from Real Madrid on a free transfer last summer but managed just 13 appearances in an injury-hit first season in Paris.

Skriniar has become Campos’ main objective in the summer window. The Portuguese analyst has identified the back line as PSG’s main area of weakness following several defensive collapses last season, not least in the Champions League against Ramos’ former club. Marquinhos and Prisnel Kimpembe were hardly the most solid defensive partnership in Europe in continental competition and while Ramos was brought in to offer some assuredness and guidance for his younger teammates, he was limited to a handful of starts by injuries.

Ramos role at PSG under scrutiny

According to Corriere della Sera, PSG initially offered €50m to Inter, but that figure has now been bumped up to try and force the Serie A side’s hand: Inter are in a parlous financial state and are holding out for €80m for the 27-year-old. La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that representatives of the two clubs were due to meet on Monday to try and hammer out a deal, one that will place Ramos’ status at the club under increased scrutiny ahead of the expected announcement of a new coach at the Parc des Princes.
