Hello
El Clásico

Are we ready for three Barça-Madrid El Clásicos in the space of a month?

Both teams have silverware in their sights as they battle for LaLiga, Copa del Rey and the Champions League.

Update:

We’ve reached the business end of the domestic season in Spain and with just two months of action remaining, three key titles are up for grabs: LaLiga, Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League with both Real Madrid and FC Barcelona in the hunt for all three.

At the moment only one El Clásico game is currently guaranteed with that being the LaLiga 2024-45 matchday 35 fixture at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium on the weekend of May 11.

Both teams are battling it out in the domestic league with Atletico Madrid still in the hunt but at present the Catalan side have the edge with a game in hand and a better goal difference and head-to-head over their rivals from the capital.

Two more El Clásico’s on the horizon?

Copa del Rey

The Copa del Rey final takes place on April 26 at Seville’s La Cartuja stadium and could be the next time the big guns of Spanish football go head-to head.

After the first legs of the semi-finals, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid played out a 4-4 draw in the Catalan capital with Real Madrid taking a 0-1 lead against Real Sociedad back to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The second legs take place next week and with Madrid’s first leg advantage and Barcelona fresh from beating Atleti at the Estadio Metropolitano 2-4, it’s hard to see past a Barça-Madrid final in the Andalucian capital next month.

Champions League

With the two LaLiga sides remaining in the Champions League kept apart on either side of the bracket, the only meeting between Barça and Madrid is a hypothetical final in Munich on May 31st.

Never in the history of the European Cup/Champions League has there been an El Clásico final.

For that to materialise, Real Madrid need to overcome quarter-final opponents Arsenal and then beat the winners of PSG/Aston Villa in a potential semi-final.

On the other side of the draw, Barcelona take on Borussia Dortmund in the quarterfinals and should they progress against the Bundesliga side, the Catalan giants would face the winners of Inter/Bayern Munich at the semi-final stage.

As things stand, this is more of an outside bet, but given Barça’s solid form both domestically and in Europe coupled with Madrid’s survival pedigree in the Champions League, maybe the possibility of Hansi Flick and Carlo Ancelotti leading their respective teams out at the Allianz Arena in Munich is not so far fetched.
